spring skiing

Since today is technically the first day of Spring, I think it's time to showcase the faces of
 Spring Skiing @ Sunlight - 2012 edition!

It has been a wonderful season, no doubt!
The boys have truly become better skiers this year - Hamp has enjoyed taking on the terrain park and "catching some air" and Sam has become very proficient on the green (easy) runs and even tackled a few more difficult ones!
But the best part of this season has been spending time with friends on the mountain...

Here's a fun little 4-minute compilation video of our last couple of days on the mountain.
A few things to look for:
  • Sam & Finley skiing together
  • Finley's epic crash - and subsequent "thumbs up" to say he's ok!
  • Elijah & Liam riding the rail
  • Hamp's jumps!
  • A quick glimpse of Jason & Jess on their snowboards
  • Hamp & Sam coming down the mountain together - no grown-ups!

So I guess it's time to put away the skis...
and start thinking about mountain bikes and camping gear!
Happy Spring!!!

I'll Tumble... again!

The winter Kids in Motion class has been a great distraction every Friday afternoon - and has resulted in some super, energy-filled fab-four fun time!
Not to mention some cool new gymnastics moves...

the backbend!
the cartwheel!
and the ever exciting obstacle course!
These guys have a blast together - and Friday's showcase was no exception!
They celebrated a successful tumbling class with a cookie (or two?!) and a few final somersaults, jumps, karate moves and general wild & cazy merriment!

another milestone

Quite possibly my favorite picture ever!!!!! These boys are just gorgeous...

So anyway, here are these four monkeys hanging around the park on a blissfully warm and sunny pseudo-spring afternoon!
After some picnicking and some swinging and general running around-ing...
the boys decided it was time to ride!
I confess... there was a bit of dastardly secret planning on the part of the involved adults.
We figured if we got these four buddies together to ride bikes, the three that are already proficient at 2-wheel bike riding would possibly encourage the one that was still skeptical about taking the training wheels off (ahem, that would be Sam) to get up and go on 2-wheels!

Now, I know Sam isn't one to normally be persuaded by peer-pressure...
and I also know that he will get up and go when he's good and ready!
But I must say, our plan kinda worked!!!
Woo-hoo!
In a matter of about 3 hours he went from training wheels to needing absolutely no help at all to get going... and keep going!
He was so proud of himself - and of course his family was so proud of him, too!
He couldn't wait to show off to his brother and dad after school:

Just so you know, we have created a monster!
He rode all afternoon... all evening...
he only stops riding his bike to eat, sleep and go to school!

Oh, and just for kicks, I checked back to my very first post on this blog - Hamp's very first "adventure" recorded here was the day he learned to ride his 2-wheel bike!
My, how time flies...

milestone

What a great weekend!
We hosted dinner with friends & kids & dogs on Friday night...
Enjoyed warm weather and the park on Saturday morning...
Celebrated with friends & kids & dogs on Saturday night...
and had yet another super ski day on Sunday!

There are many more pictures and videos (!) from skiing on Sunday, but I have to quickly report on a major milestone met by Hamp and Sam on the mountain:
their first unaccompanied run together!

Sam has figured out how to get off the chair lift without help, so with a little boost from the operator to get on the chair lift, he was ready to take a run by himself!
(well, with his big brother, anyway!)
No doubt I was extremely relieved to see their little bodies cresting the last hill toward the lodge where I was anxiously waiting their return...
... and once I saw them and knew they were ok, I was totally fine with them zooming right past me and back onto the chair lift for another run together!
I think they enjoyed their new found freedom (skiing without mom!
and their new adventure together!

I can't wait to show you much more... until then, Happy Monday!

I have no idea what month it is

This has been a strange winter...
there was no real snow until mid-January, and only then it's been kind of mild.

So normally, when March 1st rolls around everyone in Colorado starts to see the light at the end of the tunnel - meaning springtime and warmer weather and a little thaw should be on its way!

But not this year - March 1st brought some great snow.
(I do believe we'll ski again this weekend!)
So after school, the boys played on a neighborhood pile until sundown... or soak through,
which ever came first!

Even sweet Gabe got to go play a little!
Hi there!

So... whether it's January or March or whenever,
these boys sure do like having adventures in the snow!
